STRANGER is a lifesize boardgame, developed by Emke Idema, starting from her fascination for the mechanisms that are at work when people look at other people. STRANGER is a playfull platform that tries to reveal the tension between our social norms and our intuition. What strategies do people use in this field of tension? STRANGER is a platform in which the audience actively chooses, engages and speaks herself out. From the premiere on, STRANGER got a lot of attention in the Netherlands, because of its unique form: a form of participatory theatre which has not been seen so worked out in the performing arts field.
STRANGER has had an extensive preliminary trajectory: making portraits of people in different cities, interviewing people on the streets, getting inspired by conversations with social psychologists, questioning people in a self-made ‘first impressionslaboratory’, organising testsessions and the actual making of the game. Now, in every time it is played, STRANGER finds its form again.
STRANGER is available in English, French and Dutch. Every other language can be discussed.
